Hilux Common Rail Diesel Dominates the Harshest Environments in the World

For years, Icelanders have been modifying vehicles to adapt to the harsh and severe climate, and to a land that is often dangerous and hostile. The need for personal transportation year-round as well as the demands of utility and commercial fleets to operate in winter meant the need for reliable, tough vehicles that could withstand the cold of the Arctic while remaining a comfortable and safe way to travel. The Hilux AT44 is much lighter than the traditional tracked vehicles that have been used on Antarctica before. It can travel faster and carry its passengers in more comfort. But the main reason is fuel consumption; the Hilux 3.0 diesel AT44 uses about 1/5 of the fuel that is needed for the traditional vehicles and does not emit as much pollution. That means that the Hilux AT44 is one of the most environmental friendly motorized vehicles used in Antarctica.
